The 26th International Oil, Gas, Refining, and Petrochemical Exhibition was held from May 13 to 16, 2022 at the Tehran International Exhibition Center. This event is recognized as the largest energy industry gathering in Iran and the Middle East. In this edition, it hosted about 1,200 domestic companies and 44 foreign companies from 11 countries.
The 2022 exhibition was held under the motto: “Knowledge-based Oil, Iranian Production, Global Exports.” This highlighted the emphasis on technological innovation and local production in Iran’s oil industry. The international scale of the exhibition created an opportunity for various companies to showcase their latest achievements and capabilities.

1. Showcasing capabilities and products
Parsian Sepehr Refining, one of the country’s key gas refining projects, introduced its products and production capacities at its booth. The company produces 3.3 million tons annually of ethane, propane, butane, and gas condensates, underscoring its pivotal role in supplying feedstock to petrochemical plants and creating added value from rich gases. Visitors also learned about future development projects, such as propylene production, demonstrating the company’s potential in expanding the downstream value chain.
2. Strategic MoU with the Ministry of Oil
One of the most significant outcomes was the signing of a cooperation MoU with the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC). Under this agreement, Parsian Sepehr Refining will implement a project to increase ethane recovery from South Pars rich gases.

The project aims to raise the ethane recovery rate from about 66% (initial design) to 78%.

It covers 9 refineries in 18 phases of South Pars.

Once fully implemented, it is expected to generate $250–300 million annually in additional revenue for the country.
This cooperation, supported by the Ministry of Oil and the Execution of Imam Khomeini’s Order (EIKO), is a practical step toward maximizing efficiency of gas resources and preventing ethane losses, a vital petrochemical feedstock.
